Volunteers Code of Conduct & Application
As a volunteer at the DIY Depot of Tools counter, you play a crucial role in providing assistance and support to DIY Depot of Tools Members. To ensure a positive and productive environment, we expect all volunteers to adhere to the following code of conduct:
1. Respect and Courtesy:
- Treat all DIY Depot of Tools members, staff and fellow volunteers with respect and courtesy.
- Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanour when interacting with others.
- Listen actively and attentively to patrons’ needs, questions, and concerns.
2. Knowledge and Expertise:
- Strive to expand your knowledge about the DIY Depot of Tools resources, services and procedures.
- Be familiar with the various tools, materials, and equipment available for DIY projects.
- Stay updated on any changes or updates related to the offerings.
3. Confidentiality and Privacy:
- Respect the privacy and confidentiality of DIY Depot of Tools members.
- Do not disclose any personal or confidential information about members unless necessary for their safety or in compliance with legal requirements.
4. Safety and Maintenance:
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures when using tools and equipment.
- Report any safety concerns, maintenance issues, or damaged equipment to the appropriate DIY Depot of Tools staff.
- Encourage patrons to practice safe DIY techniques and offer guidance as needed.
5. Professionalism:
- Depot of Tools counter.Be punctual and reliable, adhering to your agreed-upon volunteer schedule.
- Maintain a professional and unbiased approach while assisting patrons, irrespective of their background or abilities.
6. Conflict Resolution:
- Handle conflicts or disagreements with patrons, staff, or fellow volunteers calmly and respectfully.
- Seek guidance from DIY Depot of Tools staff if the situation escalates or if you are unsure how to handle a particular issue.
7. Communication:
- Clearly communicate instructions, suggestions, and guidelines to patrons in a concise and understandable manner.
- Seek clarification when unsure about a patron’s needs or requests.
- Report any significant interactions, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate DIY Depot of Tools staff.
8. Personal Boundaries:
- Refrain from sharing personal contact information or engaging in personal relationships with DIY Depot of Tools patrons.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid making assumptions about patrons based on their appearance, beliefs, or backgrounds.
9. Continuous Improvement:
- Seek opportunities for personal growth and development in order to enhance your ability to assist Members effectively.
- Actively participate in training sessions or workshops provided by the DIY Depot of Tools to improve your knowledge and skills.
10. Compliance with the Policies:
- Familiarise yourself with the DIY Depot of Tools policies and procedures and ensure adherence to them at all times.
- Seek clarification from DIY Depot of Tools staff if you have any questions or concerns about a specific policy.
